Black sooty plugs

Hi I have a 1997 subaru impreza 2000cc non turbo my sparkplugs (all 4)have dry black soot on them and it misses when you try to rev it can someone tell me what it is and what parts /or parts.I need to repair it. Its a uk model with the flat engine with two heads hope someone can help thanks for your time brian

Black soot on the plugs can be from oil or a very rich mixture. The plugs need replaced and the new ones need to be properly gapped. Let me know if you have noticed any black smoke from the exhaust when the engine is running.

Hi and thanks for quick response I have changed the plugs and they are full of black dry soot they is no black smoke coming from the exhaustand it starts up very good what I found was when I drive it I got to about 30mph and it starterd to hold back and miss fire a little bit but I could slowly get it up to about 65 mph and it would start to miss again

What I think is it is running rich. Is there an odor from the exhaust?
