I have bought a subaru today, on the way home the engine emissions warning light appeared, it had a service yesterday and seems to be running fine. I have heard that disconnecting the battery for a few mins can reset it, is it ok to do this or will it affect the ECU? do you have any other suggestions why this light may have appeared we were just driving on motorway about two hours after the car was purchased.

you should take the vehicle to a local auto part store and ask them to scan your vehicle for trouble codes. most part stores do this for free. post the code(s) you retrieve and we can better assist you. there are too many things that can cause the engine lamp to illuminate, from faulty sensors to leaking vacuum hoses. the code(s) will pinpoint the culprit.
