Hello,
This sounds like a problem with the Bendix gear in your vehicle's starter motor not engaging the flywheel. Your starter has a little arm with a small gear on it that extends and meshes with the flywheel, which is attached to the engine, and then the starter's electric motor spins the Bendix gear which in turn spins the engine to get it started. If the Bendix gear isn't extending far enough out to mesh with the flywheel, all you will hear is the whirring sound of the Bendix gear spinning because it hasn't meshed with the flywheel. So, here is a link to a generic guide on how to replace a starter motor below:

In the diagrams down below I have included the instructions for the removal and installation of the starter motor for your vehicle. Please go through these guides and let us know how everything turns out.
Thanks,
Alex
