i just put in a new starter, it worked fine for a week, then stopped. I tested the starter motor was good, then i tested bypassing ignition switch going straight from positive, to trigger on the starter I get nothing, but could smell some burning in solenoid. why did it do that on a new starter? Thank you, Ben " old school diy guy"

Good morning,

Sounds like the starter has failed. Even new parts can be defective. At least it is covered under warranty.

What brand and from what store?

Was it a brand new starter or a re-manufactured starter, because if it was re-manufactured, they don't always put on a new solenoid. If they test it once or twice and it works, they may choose now to put a new solenoid on, and that may be why.
