Hey happy holidays! I have a starter and fly wheel problem. The gears are stacking up on each other cause oh an awful sound! And won’t ultimately engage the truck to start. I’ve tried to shim it and seemed to work for a week then started acting up again. Got a new starter recently had a shop put in the new flywheel and they still had the same problem. Started costing too much. And need some help! Check out the picture! It got stuck in the out position with no shim. Put a shim in and is still acting up any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

It's hard for me to tell what is happening in the picture. However, have you tried an additional shim? Also, are you aware there are two different types of starters used on this vehicle. One was a Delco Remy and the other was manufactured by Mitsubishi.

I attached two pictures. First is a side view of the Delco. The second shows a portion of the Mitsubishi. I added the picture because it shows how the travel limit of the Bendix is regulated. If you replaced the starter, make sure you got the correct one to replace it.

Let me know if this helps.

Yes, somewhere like AutoZone should have both starters. You could compare them. Also, if you can upload a picture of the original starter, I may be able to identify which one it is.

Let me know.

There really isn't a specific name. However, one should say Delco Remy and the other Mitsubishi.
