The engine tries to stall under a load, idling fine, noticed when motor is cold and hot.

Good evening.

Does the engine actually turn off or just will not pick up speed?

Possible issues could be low fuel pressure or a clogged catalytic converter.

If I do not press the clutch to release the load it will choke down. I have had two other vehicles with similar symptoms and it was the torque converter switch. I was beginning to think it could be the catalytic converter or TCC. My diagnostic has a short or loose wire so cannot get an OBD reading.

Okay, first, if you have a standard transmission which is what you indicate, there is no torque converter.

The catalytic converter should be checked for back pressure. You can rent a gauge at a parts store and install it where the O2 sensor is at the exhaust manifold. Anything more than 1 lb indicates a clogged catalytic converter.
