I'm trying to troubleshoot my mom's car. It had been stalling periodically as she slows down or comes to a stop if she put it in neutral it would typically restart. It was not throwing a check engine light at this point. My Dad has a basic foxwell scanner that only shows a voice of us an active code.

So, I cleaned the throttle body thoroughly off the car, reinstalled it and did the idle relearn procedure. It seemed to behave while I was still there, so, I considered it fixed and didn't hook up my better scanner (I know, I should have). The next day it went back to stalling. I drove back to where my parents live, hooked up my code reader and got a pending p1336 code. So, we replaced the crankshaft position sensor.

After this was done my parents drove for a good 30 or 40 miles and it was behaving normally. However, this evening my mom was running into town to run some errands and the car shut off on her except this time it was while she was in motion not while she was coming to a stop. She managed to get it to the side of the road, my dad came, they got the car restarted and got it home. This time, it threw a check engine light.

My dad hooked up his scanner and this time got a p061d code. Dad replaced the mass air flow sensor, I think they went through the idle relearn procedure because my mom said they did everything I told him to do but now the car won't start at all.

Any advice as to what could be going wrong with this thing would be greatly appreciated. I don't live in the same town as my parents I'm about an hour and a half away and I've already driven down there twice this week to try to help. Money is a bit tight for them right now as well.

Hi:

If it won't start now, have them try sstarting it with starting fluid. If it starts and then stalls, we know it is a fuel related issue. (possible faulty fuel pump or regulator).

If the vehicle doesn't start or try to start, we need to check if we lost spark. Here is a link that will help them.

Let me know what you find.

My dad says he does not want to use a starter fluid on it. I think he's kind of fed up and maybe just getting it towed to the garage. And the last ditch effort to help them I'm adding pictures of the freeze frame data when it was throwing the first code that had me replace the crankshaft sensor. If this is any assistance please let me know.

Sorry could not figure out a way to edit my reply. I meant to include in my reply that I'm getting concerned that it is the PCM. Given that it's shown three separate issues all seemingly related to fuel but all separate issues what are the chances it's the PCM? It seems as I resolve one few related issue and it's happy then it throws up something entirely different.

Yep, it could be the PCM is bad. P061D does not mean the MAF sensor is bad. It means Internal Control Module Engine Air Mass Performance. Ford describes this as a PCM monitoring/calculation fault, with PCM calibration/software or the PCM itself among the possibilities.
