How to remove speedometer needle safely?

Here is how you remove the cluster so you can take it apart. Once the lens is removed you can use a small pair of needle nose pliers to work the needle from the main shaft of the speedometer gauge. You should use a protector on the cluster face so as not to damage it such as tape. Take note of the needle position because it will need to be reinstalled in the same place.
