My speedometer, tachometer, temperature gauge and gear indicator (park, reverse, drive, etc.) Are not functional. I did clean my engine bay and the issue could be electrical. I did cover up all the necessary components that don’t need to get wet before I did any washing of the engine bay. I have replaced the car battery and I have replaced all of the small fuses in the fuse box under the hood. Here are the engine codes that come up: P1111, P1212 and U1000. Any suggestions as to what the cause may be or what a potential fix could be would be appreciated? Thanks, Thomas

Hi,

The P1212 indicates a fault related to the can-bus communication with the ABS/TCS system. This can be the result of a dead battery, a bad ABS actuator or control unit, and so on. The only problem is this vehicle doesn't use CAN communication with the ABS.

You got something under the hood wet related to the ABS is what I suspect. There is an electronic ABS actuator on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

If you look below, the first two pics show the wiring schematic related. I highlighted wiring related to the power supplies. I need you to check those fuses and fusible links again to not only confirm the fuses are good, but also to check for power to them.

Here is a link to help:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

Pic 3 shows the location of the ABS electronics under the hood. Check the connector to make sure it isn't wet or damaged.

The remaining pics are to help locate fuse/fusible link locations and orientation.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you for your quick response! It has been raining where we are right now. I most likely will not be able to look at the Infiniti until this weekend. When I looked at some of my fuses yesterday I did not see any that were blown but most of them looked tarnished. Maybe because some of them might have gotten wet. I may try to clean all the contacts on the fuses and/or replace most all of them. Picture 1 is interior fuses and picture 2 and 3 are fuses under the hood. The broken top fuse in picture 3 has been replaced. I will check back in this weekend. Thanks again.

Hi,

You are very welcome. Remember, when you check fuses, confirm there is power both to it and from it. The link I attached above will guide you.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Take care,

Joe

Update, I found a wire that was eaten through by most likely a rodent, I live outside the city by about 10 miles or so. I am in the process of repairing the wire and should have it installed by the end of this weekend. I will attach a picture of the eaten wire and the part the wire plugs into in circled in red. I know enough about cars to get me in trouble but I can’t tell you what the name of this part is. Anyways, after I cut the wires and unplugged them from the engine my gauges work again? All of the various lights are still on, to be expected because I haven’t fixed anything, VDC, SLIP and ABS. Found that interesting. I will repair the wire sometime this weekend and check back in.

Hi,

What you circled appears to be the camshaft position sensor. And wow, the wires are a mess.

See the pic below. Let me know how things turn out for you.

Okay. I repaired the wires that a rodent ate through. I used a Lineman’s Splice to attach the new wire to the old, had to look that up. Then used heat shrink tubing to secure the wire together and ensure it lasts longer than electrical tape. Picture below. The car now only has one engine code being thrown P1111. The car has sat unused for roughly two years. She needs an oil change, new set of tires (there is also a power steering problem but that seems pretty easy to diagnose and fix in comparison), inspection and registration before I can get her back in the road. The dash lights have also decreased to just SLIP, VDC and ABS off. I have read that P1111 is an Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Bank 1 and that changing the oil can help fix this issue. I will be honest it may take me awhile to get the oil changed but when I do I will check back in.

PS: I think I am going to change the oil myself this week instead of waiting for new tires and then taking her up to get an oil change at my local Valvoline. I am more than capable of changing the oil and I am just ready to get this car back on the road!

Hi,

That looks like an excellent fix on the wiring. As far as the remaining code, dirty oil can cause it. Don't expect it to instantly turn the light off. It may take some time if it is a dirt issue.

Also, I attached the diagnostics below for the code. I hope it helps you.

Take care,

Joe

Okay. I changed the oil and flushed out the power steering fluid. Car purrs like a kitten and flushing the power steering fluid and adding new fluid fixed the problem. I still have the P1111 and now I have P1110 code showing up after changing the oil. I am not concerned with those because I changed the oil and you stated it may take a little time for those to correct and the the code to go away. But, I am still left with these three lights? SLIP, VDC off and ABS (picture below)? Everything else has been fixed or taken care of. But what can cause these to come on? I really do appreciate your help with this Joe!

Thank you kindly!

Hi,

First, if I'm of any help, you are very welcome.

As far as the lights, they are all tied together. Take a look at pic 1 below.

As far as the new code (P1110) that deals with intake valve timing (bank 1). However, the manual indicates if a P1111 exists, that is where to start. I believe you have already done that. The diagnostics are listed above.

Let me know.

Sorry for the late reply! I was able to take the Infiniti into a mechanic and the initial problem, wires being eaten through, also shorted out both of my front Speed Sensors. That is why my SLIP, VDC and ABS lights were on. New speed sensors were installed, and lights were reset. We have only had it out the shop for a week. Only time will tell but, so far so good. Thanks again Joe.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear it's fixed, and thanks for the update. It will help others in the future. Also, I was really interested in knowing what caused the issue.

Regardless, please feel free to come back anytime in the future. You are always welcome here.

Take care of yourself,

Joe

A rodent ate through my intake valve timing connector wires. Because those wire are under the air intake box right above the radiator, the eaten wires went unnoticed. I had a mechanic look at the Infiniti two years ago and he could not find a problem. He did not take all of the engine covers off to be able to see the eaten wires. He told me he could not find what was causing all the lights to come on and gave me the car back. Two years later I decide to try and find the problem and took off all of the engine covers. Found the eaten wires and posted the rest here. Funny story, the same mechanic installed my Speed Sensors and got my car road worthy again.

Hi,

It makes a difference when it's your vehicle. You wanted it fixed and it was more than just another vehicle. Regardless, great job, and thanks for the additional information.

Take good care of yourself.
