Recently got my c1500 truck running again. Transmission was swapped out due to past transmission each gear started going out until all gears went out. Current transmission the shifter stick would get loose from the housing bolts (maybe stripped from unscrewing to put gear oil) ended up putting new screws but then the clutch slave cylinder went out, replaced that. Back to bolts for shifter housing loose again went to tighten them but after tightening them the overdrive gear or fifth gear whichever it may be called and reverse do not work.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

I may know what happened. When the shift tower is removed or replaced, the transmission has to be in either third or fourth gear. Here are the directions and notes from Alldata. Take a look through them and let me know if it helps.

Important
- Do not disassemble the transmission shift lever housing. If the shift lever housing requires replacement, replace with a new shift tower. Internal parts for this shifter are not available and opening the shift tower voids the warranty.
- When removing the shift tower from the transmission, use the exposed bolts on the base of the tower. Do not use the bolts under the rubber boot located at the top of the tower.
- During installation or removal of the shift tower, the transmission must be in the third or fourth gear position. After tightening the four bolts securing the shift tower to the transmission, the shifter can be engaged into other shift positions.
Inspect
- Prior to removal, check the shift lever housing for proper operation.
- Boot for cracks, tears, or distortion. Replace if necessary.

Take care,
Joe
