Hello,
I am experiencing the same issue as the original poster and with the same car.
The first response says to check fuse numbers 5, 9, and 10. Fuses 5 and 9 were good on the car, but fuse 10 was burnt out. I replaced it and turned the car on. None of the backlights in question came on again. I rechecked the fuse, and it still looks good. I can also tell fuses 5 and 9, and the circuits they are on are good because whenever I remove them, the dome lights on the roof of the car go out.
The next reply says to check for power at fuse 10. I used my automotive circuit tester contact probe to check each contact. When on the driver side contact of fuse 10 it lights up fully. On the passenger side contact it gives a dim glow. (What does this mean?) I tried it on fuses 5 and 9 to see what it looks like on a fuse location that appears to be working properly. For both, the tester lit up fully when touching the driverside contact but did not give any light when touching the passenger side contact.
Also, if you look at images 5 and 6 from the second reply(the instrument panel illumination circuit diagram), you can see all the areas that are missing backlighting and where they connect. At the top of image 5, you will see the Smart Junction Box or Cabin Fuse Box. The first wire coming out of it reading from left to right is the Violet/gray wire. Everything branching off from it is missing its backlighting. This includes on the left side starting at the top and going down, the steering wheel cruise control switch, steering wheel audio control switch, message center switch, pad indicator/traction control/ ambient light switch. On the right side starting at the bottom and going up it includes the mainlight switch, floor shifter, and luggage compartment lid release switch.
I seem to be getting closer to the issue but I have no idea where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
