Serpentine belt

Need new belt but want to bypass the A/C compressor at this time. I need a new one but do not have money at this time. What length do I need? Thanks for your help.

Are you sure the compressor locked?

Or

Is the pulley bearings what are actually locked up.

I have not located any information for a belt to bypass with. Trial and error may be the only way to find one, you must insure the shorter belt does not interfere with other stuff in the new belt path.

Grabbing at straws here, as I cannot see your situation.

1) Turning on the A/C makes the clutch engage.

2) Turning on any "heat mode" that "defrost" is included in the setting (ex. Feet/ face/ windshield). Turns on the clutch and compressor- Boom! There goes the dragging and the belt!

3) With an unplugged clutch, nothing can turn it on! The clutch will not engage the compressor (at all) and the pulley still be able to freewheel.

If the clutch pulley bearings are fine, all might be okay until you make replace the compressor.

Just trying to make it make make sense and maybe workable, maybe this option never entered as an option.

Yes, I cannot freely turn the pulley on the A/C compressor.

I did not know you could replace the pulley only. Could not find a part listed. I had a new belt, put it on and as soon as I turned on the A/C and it started smoking immediately shut it down.

I looked some more for a belt to bypass with - no luck.

Used to be that an A/C clutch could be purchase separately, Rockauto still sells removal tooling as well as a few other places.

Now days the compressor and clutch are sold as one unit.

I have no instructions on doing this (YouTube might). If one is handy and careful the clutch can be disassembled. Usually the bearing assembly is held in with a snap ring. I have seen folks get the bearing needed from an auto parts store and other times from a bearing specialty place (around here that would be "Dixie Bearing").

Obtaining a deemed "bad" or useless A/C compressor assembly might be a free or cheap way to get parts at an auto salvage yard to attempt a repair.

I did also see during my searching the "Bypass Pulley" for your rig for about $36.00.
