2003 Saturn Vue

Recently the check engine light came on the Vue. When putting the car in drive or reverse, it takes a few seconds for the transmission to engage. I took it to one mechanic who thought it was the ftp valve, but they do not do transmission work. The nex mechanic (a transmission expert) wanted to charge $740 to just get into the transmission. I am getting ready to go to the Saturn dealer but wanted to see if you had any advice. I do not want to sink a lot of money into the car, but need to know the possible issues

If you could tell me what the code number's were it would really help me give you a idea of what's going on. It sound's like your having a transmission problem though the 4 cyl's that year had a lot of problem's with those transmission's. They could try flushing the transmission and maybe you need a updated transmission cal but more then likely you will need a transmission side cover or valve body depending on what your transmission pressure's are.
