U need one for obd 2 that does can also control area network.U can get one that does just read and erase codes or a more hi tech one that reads engine data does freeze frame records data. Depends how much u want to spend on one. If u dont live in california u can go to a auto parts store like autozone and they will read ur codes for free. Let me know what u find.

I found and bought an OBDCOM USB cable and software. It works great. I found what I need to know very easilly and I can use it on all of my cars.
