2002 Saturn Vue 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

yesterday when I started up my car it was making a buzzing type noise, but the noise sounds like its coming from under the the back seat. I thought it was a muffler problem but when I took it to midas they checked and said it wasn't the muffler. They thought it could be the fuel pump. Does this sound right? If so my question is if this goes out will I be stranded on the side of the road? And how long will it last before it goes out completly? Also any Idea how much it cost to replace this? It seems to get louder when I am stop at a stop light and quiets a little when I drive. Thanks so much!

I have seen a few of the fuel pumps buzz in the tanks like u are talking about. There is two fuel pumps in ur tank a primary and secondary and its usually the secondary one buzzing it wont be cheap to fix they have to drop the tank and if u have all wheel drive it will cost more because theres a driveline in the way. Then the pump isnt cheap ethier. As far as breaking down I have heard some pretty loud ones that were still pumping just fine. Its just the pump rattling.U can actually put ur hand on the tank and see which one it is usaully. Well let me know how it goes.
