Electrical problem
1998 Saturn SL2 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

hasnt started on a few occasions, it'd click and have power everywhere but the dashboard. Id mess with the alarm off/on remote, checked fuses, took key in and out, then out of nowhere it'd start. Its done this three times over a 2 month time period. BUT now wont start no matter what ive tried. No codes come up on the computer diagnostic reader, tried hot wiring it straight, nada! Any advice?

Start by having the ignition switch thoroughly tested on each position.

Its been tested with ohm and even tried to hot wire it straight from the battery and still wont start. Basically a wiring diagram for ignition/alarm is what im going to need. There has to be something im missing.

No nothing not lights not gages nothing on the dash works. Except the a/c and stereo work. When I turn the key it just clicks. I hear the fuel pump kick on and everything on the dash doesnt show any life. The headlights work and when I turn the key they dont dim so its definately electrical.

I had a similar problem with my 1998 SL2, drove me nuts ! By your gas pedal remove the kick panel to the right. There will be a terminal block with about 70 wires pluged in, check the large red wire, melted, or loose. The wire gauge is to large for the factory connector, causing the red insulator to melt, oxidize the wire thus bad connection. I bought a terminal block from an auto salvage yard w/wires and connectors, $5, used new wire and connector to do a butt splice. Voila pain in the a$$ finaly fixed. Might not be your problem now. Or yet. Good Luck! Knappie Let me Know if you can.
