Hello,
If you are experience engine shutting off at random times (driving or idling), it could be due to a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
Over time the heat and vibration from the engine can make the sensor loose its internal calibration. When a crank sensor goes bad it will send incorrect data to the ECM. That can trigger a engine shut off.
The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located on the back of the engine block, below intake manifold (see diagram).
Check the sensor and make sure the connector is secure and free of any corrosion. You can also check the sensor for internal resistance. It should have 700-900 ohms resistance.
