Transmission Bang

I have a 2002 Saturn SL2 with about 78500 miles. When I put the car into reverse the car makes a loud bang. When I drive and the car changes gear the car makes a big bang saound and the car jerks. What can this be? Please help.

I had a 2000 Sl that had a broken muffler strap. Every time the motor bounced a bit the movement traveled down the exhaust pipe and the muffler would clang on the body. This was on a car with a decent motor mount. It would be much worse on a vehicle with worn mounts.
