98 Saturn sw2 temperature guage not working

My 1998 Saturn SW1 or 2 not sure which with 158000 miles on it. The temperature guage just barely moved from the cold side on may trip to work this morning. The trip is about 13 miles. The guage normally runs about halfway between cold and the halfway mark. What is causing this problem?

Sounds like maybe the thermostat is stuck open

Also check if your cooling fan is running constantly.
