The car starts fine. But I can't shift into any gear. It won't come off park. It appears to be locked.
this vehicle was just donated to me. We help at risk youth and I don't know much about this car. Could you please help. Thank you

First, you must have the brake fully depressed in order to shift out of park.

If you are doing that and it still will not shift out, you could be having problems with the BTSI - Brake Transaxle Shift Interlock - a system which prevents you from shifting out of park UNLESS the brake is depressed. To attempt to bypass this system, try this:

Turn ignition key to ACCESSORY
Apply brakes
Shift car to neutral - you should be able to operate normally now.

If this still does not work, you may need to either replace the BTSI or physically bypass it by disconnecting the cable. That is more involved.
