I saw the following post: "(Whenever I get in my car and start it, it starts fine, and it continues to run fine as long as I have my foot on the gas a little. As soon as I take my foot off the gas it idles really slowly and then it shuts off. I've tried going straight into reverse and as soon as I start to back out it shuts off. I've also tried to sit with my foot on the pedal and let the engine get warmed up a little and that doesn't work either)". For a few reasons I'm thinking it's my valve seals that blow white smoke on startup, etc. What was your solution?

Valve stem seals normally blow bluish tinted smoke on startup and if they are really bad you can sometimes get smoke when the oil gets hot. As for the throttle problem, it sounds like you need to rebuild the carburetor and check to see if the automatic choke is working. Then set the timing and idle speed once the engine is warm. For the carburetor kit you will need to get the numbers off of the carburetor body to get the correct kit as there are multiple versions. The kit will have all of the instructions and which pieces you use or don't use for your particular application. Then let it run and warm up to do the rest.
