Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Saab 9-5 6 cyl Automatic 101000 miles

Hi Guys,

My wife drove through large puddle today on the highway under an underpass which was fairly deep (she didn't realize it until it was too late). The water seemed to have gotten into the engine b/c the car shut down and the water started to seep into the car from the front. I think the water came in through the filter (puddle not THAT deep) due to heavy rainfall and Sabb's positioning of the air filters behind the fog lights (found that out online). What are my options? Do I have to replace the engine? I am waiting for Geico to give me an estimate, but I am worried about them just totaling it and giving me a check?

Thank you

That is rough on the engine when they get water in them like that.Your best bet would be to remove all of the spark plugs and crank it over to expel the water.Them dry and reinstall the plugs.Changing the oil wouldnt hurt either.Afterwards start it and see how it runs.Sometimes water inside them can cause the rods to be bent or crankshaft/bearing damage, broken/cracked pistons.
