How quickly are you turning the crank? I always allow the compression to hit 5 times minimum turning the engine with the starter motor. However, if it drops to 0 when you stop, something is certainly leaking. You had the head redone, correct?

I'm sorry. This would be so much easier if I was there. When you indicate new things, it causes new thoughts to come to mind.

So, if the cylinder walls were in good shape, the first thing I can think of a valve isn't properly seating, the block or head is warped, or for some reason beyond my knowledge, something caused the compression rights to totally fail.

Sounds good. Make sure everything is straight on the block and head. Something isn't making sense. Also, check if there is any evidence where the head gasket isn't compressed as much.

Before you actually remove the head, check compression the same way on the other cylinders to compare.

Either the compression is going through a valve, the compression rings are bad, or there is a crack somewhere. Compression should be over 100. Will the people that redid the head check it for you? Have you tried a wet compression test? If the rings are bad, compression will increase.

Hi,

No, the piston needs removed. Once it's out, the rings are checked by end clearance between the two gaps where it is stretched to install on a piston. Basically, a ring is placed in the cylinder, and I always push them down approximately three inches using a piston to get it perfectly straight. Then I can check it.
