Okay, looking to rebuild my transfer case as it broke inside. I am looking to buy a transfer case rebuild kit, but need to try to find out the chain size as the one I'm looking at says you need to get the correct chain and you need to know how many links are in the chain and pins. How do you find this out 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 it a np246?

Good morning,

I attached the kit and the chain for you to view. There is only one chain for the 246 case.

Okay, thank you. Now I know what chain to get, now what about the transfer case rebuild kit itself since you have to buy that one separate which one would be the one I needed?

You as well.

This is a complicated job. Expect more than a kit and chain to be replaced. There are a lot of parts inside.

I would suggest getting a book for this job. I looked at the steps for it and there are so many things that need to be checked and replaced.

ATSG makes a great manual for this procedure. You can buy it online and guides you step by step for this repair.

Otherwise, I would suggest replacing it with a rebuild or used init.
