The drums are worn to the point that I cannot get them off over the shoes. I cannot see how to release the self adjuster so I can get the drum off.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

The rear brake adjuster on these vehicles are different that the traditional type. These have a ratchet type which are not accessible from the outside. So, here is what I suggest. First, make sure the retaining screws are removed from the outside of the drum. There are two and they should be a number 3 phillips. Next, make sure the parking brake cable is loose.

Then you will need to smack the drum between the wheel studs. Don't be afraid to hit it with a heavy hammer. See if that loosens it. Then tap around the outside diameter of the drum. (See picture 2)

I attached an exploded view of the brakes (picture 1). I circled the adjuster.

Also, here is a link that may help. There is a video in it that explains what to do with a stuck brake drum.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,
Joe
