In March, our 2009 Saturn Vue Hybrid started making a rattling noise under the hood from the passenger side. Our mechanic friend listened to it and said it sounded like a bad pulley. To our surprise, you have to replace the whole bracket, not just a pulley. So we replaced the tensioner belt and the bracket with pulleys ($360, $250 of that was parts). Problem solved and noise was gone. About 5 weeks later, the same noise returned and he took the car back in to check it out. He found that a bearing was bad in the pulley and replaced it (dealership part under warranty, no cost to us for the repair). The car drove fine for him for his hour drive from work, then he turned the corner onto my street and the noise started again. He said he believes it is a different noise and not the same pulley bearing and he would like to take it back in to chase the noise. He didn't take it back in at the time, because if it is going to be an expensive repair or take a few days, we needed to get our other car on the road as backup (04 Chevy Classic cost us $650 ($350 of it was parts) for front brake job, (2) O2 sensors and outer tie rod ends and alignment).

Anyway, The rattling noise continues, and we have since gotten a few messages: Change Engine Oil Soon (duh), Service Stabilitrack, Service Traction Control with the light "Traction Control OFF". Now today these lights came on and went off from short trips I made, then they came on and the engine light came on with "Service Hybrid System" message. Sometimes turning the car off turns the lights off, and I can drive with just the rattling noise, and then lights come on and I get almost like a pulsing when I brake and come to a stop or slowing to turn corners. Any chance you may have a clue if this is all related? Prayers it is a bad sensor and inexpensive fix. Our mechanic is not too familiar with Hybrid but if he can fix it he does at a super fair rate. Also, how do I learn if my VIN is part of recalls? THANKS!

As far as all your warning lights coming on I would need all the trouble code numbers in the computer not code descriptions? That would take a advanced scan tool not a diyer one. Does your mechanic have one of those to get me the codes? As far as the rattling noise I can hear it or narrow it down from where iam.I would need mor input on that.

Hello and thank you for your reply. I saw another posting about the same lights and issue (other than the rattling noise). I went to Advance Auto and they hooked the code reader up and as I was telling the man Exhaust Solinoid, he said YES that is what the code says. SO, I got the $34 part and he showed me where it is located and my husband replaced it. Lights have gone out. I will drive it more today to clear the codes and follow up. If that doesn't also take care of the rattling noise, I'll let you know. THANKS!

You should have had them clear the codes after you replaced the solenoid that way you know the code was cleared from memory. That shouldn't have set off the stability traction light and depending on which part it was it doesn't sound like a hybrid system part. Whats the part number of the part you replaced and its actual name?
