Truck will turn over but most of the time it never starts on first crank now the starter is making sharp noise when I try to start it sometimes it starts first but I usually have to wait a while before it starts. What's wrong.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

The idea that there is a delayed start usually is the result of low fuel pressure. I suggest starting there. Here is a link that shows how to check fuel pressure, pressure regulator, and pressure drop off:

Also, if the check engine light remains on when the engine is running, you need to scan the computer for diagnostic trouble codes. I realize most people don't have a scanner, but here is a video that shows how one is used:

If you do not have access to a scanner, most parts stores will scan the computer for you at no charge. If you find there are codes stored, let me know what they are so I can better help you.

Take care and let me know what you find.

Joe
