My bakkie loses power going uphill. Air filter and diesel filters have been changed but that is not the problem. What should I look for to find the problem?

Hello,

As this vehicle is diesel it should be fitted with a DPF. These can become overloaded with soot which in turn can cause back pressure issues in the exhaust system. This in turn can lead to low boost pressure and reduced engine power.

Another issue can be the SCV, suction control valve, at the rear of the high-pressure fuel pump. These can fail and cause reduced fuel pressure in the rail which in turn can cause loss of engine power. See images below

There could be a host of issues which can cause loss of engine power such as lack of boost, blocked fuel filter, blocked air filter, contaminated intake manifold, sticky EGR valve and the list goes on.

Have you checked the ECU for any fault codes? This will be the best way to start.

Please let us know how you get along.
