cooling fan does NOT stop

1986 Porche 944 with 106,000 miles. I recently had the battery replaced. Then the next time I went to drive it the battery was dead again. I was told the reason the battery died was not the alternator, but was because the cooling fan relay was faulty and the cooling fan would not stop. I replaced the fan relay, but noticed the cooling fan still does not stop. I take out the relay and the fan stops. I put the relay in and the fan starts regardless if the car is hot or cold. What could be causing the cooling fan to not turn off? And what do I need to replace to make it work? I have no problems with a dead battery as long as I remove the relay while the car is parked for extended periods of time.

Thanks for the tip. The mechanic also confirmed the cooling fan switch was faulty. Had it replaced. Car was great for about 4 days. Went out this AM and the battery was dead. Jumped it okay. Car drove great. Got to work and noticed the cooling fan didn't go off after 30 minutes. I pulled the relay out. Any suggestions as to whatthe problem is now?

thanks

Suggested Repair

Check the cooling fan relay. The cooling fan switch was also found faulty and replaced, but the fan still would not shut off and continued to drain the battery.

Conversation Summary

On a 1986 Porsche 944, the cooling fan kept running whether the engine was hot or cold and drained the battery. Removing the relay stopped the fan. Replacing the relay did not fix it. An expert suggested the cooling fan switch; a mechanic confirmed it was faulty and replaced it. The car was fine for a few days, then the battery died again and the fan would not shut off. A later expert advised checking the cooling fan relay.
