Engine problem
1998 Pontiac Transport Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 130000 miles

we were told the main engine gasket needed to be replaced because of a leak. They told us it would $1000. Oo or more. It was running hot until they put anti-freeze in the engine, now, it's not running hot, but the engine still smells like it's burning and it still steams some, especially on cold mornings.

Unfortunately the gasket they are talking about is the lower intake manifold gasket and im sure it is leaking and needs to be replaced. The gaskets were designed poorly. You need to fix it now rather than later because it can leak into engine causing engine failure. The price you got is about average, maybe a little high but not ripping you off by any means. Hope this helps. ***Keep your receipt, I heard there is a class action law suit due to the bad gaskets, but its unlikely it will win, but keep them just in case.
