my rpms rise up and down while driving, is it my tranmission, or do i just need fluid?

There is a good chance it could be your TPS "throttle position system" My 02 sunfire was doing the same thing mostly at highway speeds, I replaced the TPS and it took care of the issue. the part itself shouldnt cost more than 50 bucks and its an easy repair you can do yourself.
