1999 Pontiac Sunfire starting problem

I have a 1999 pontiac sunfire (automatic). When I try to start it (in park), nothing happens, it wont turn-over, if I wiggle and tap on the gear shifter, it will start. I have even put it in neutral and try starting it, but again it does not tun-over nor start. Please help.

Try replacing the park and neutral position switch located on top of the transaxle

Thanks for your help rasmataz, I have a question about what you said. Can it also be the neutral/safety switch? What are the differences between the 2 swithes?
