I bought an 06 Grand Prix used. It did not come with a remote to open the doors or trunk as the owners manual stated. I spoke to the dealer where I bought the vehicle and he said he did not have the remote to the vehicle. If I buy one is it user programmable or will I need to take it to a dealer? What would be a reasonable charge for this? I read where a PGM fuse may have to be removed for user programming. If so where would this fuse be located?

You will have to go to a shop with a scan tool capable of accessing the BCM (Body Control Module) to program the remotes. It doesnt have to be the dealer, but they need the proper equipment to do the job. It may be anywhere from 1-2 hours of shop labor. You may want to call around for pricing. Just tell them you need the remotes programmed. Maybe even go back to the dealer and see if they have the scanner or if they use a shop that does, and see if they will pay for programming if you buy the remotes. Worth a try

Thanks Jack. I was hoping this would be a user friendly type thing but I see it is not. I will contact the dealer and see what they say.
