2004 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 13,500 miles

My speedometer quit and I was having to go 90 miles according to it to make 60 mph. The mechanics tell me I am going to have to replace the whole cluster panel for $475.00 but now it has started working! What should I do? They told me it was burning out and had a short in it.

Hi
Most likely Vehicle Speed Sensor on transaxle possible debris caused malfunction then cleared. Very unlikely electronic speedo to heal itself. If it's working now drive on if it messes up again go to another shop have VSS tested.
