I've had problems with it spitting and sputtering since I got the car. My husband replaced the fuel pump and filter a couple of months ago and the intake gaskets on the 14th. It ran great for a few miles and then lost power. I can't get it over 20 MPH. We already know the transmissions good. What can he try to maybe correct the problem. We don't have codes and cannot afford a code reader right now. Any help would be appreciated.

If engine has a high idle the intake gaskets are leaking, if idle is OK, then most likely the convertor is clogged or partially clogged.

Start by checking spark and fuel pressure with mechanical gauge, if OK, then convertor is the likely culprit.
