1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 2nd Flexplate shattered by ?

I'm trying to find out why my car keeps breaking flexplates. It was hit in the front passenger side, shoving the engine into the transmission and breaking the bell housing. The transmission was replaced, while the engine is original. If you have any ideas I would be very grateful to see them. Thanks!

If you used the same torque converter from the accident and the converter mounting lugs are just a little bit out of square from the converter nose (the part that goes into the crank) it will eat flex plates.
