Engine Performance problem
1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 122000 miles

I'm having a couple of problems. First when I am driving my car I notice a lot of noise when I turn, sort of like the power steering pump to trying way too hard to turn the wheels. Also, my car has started sputtering at stops signs and red lights. The RPM's usually run around 1000 but now they jump from 500 to 1000 and act like my car is going to die. I went home and checked the oil and transmission fulid but the levels were ok. So I started messing with the throttle and notticed an unusual sound that was coming from my spark plug box(house), and then the smell of my exhaust hit me and it smelled like rotten eggs. I know this may be an unusual question but no one can figure out whats wrong.

The rotten egg smell is coming from the convertor. Have a backpressure test performed on convertor, It may be partially clogged which will cause problems you describe.

Also remove and clean EGR valve pintle and base, which can also cause rough idle, stalling.
