Ok so I have a 1992 pontiac grand am 5 speed 149k miles. It runs great altho my brake lights came on today and will not go out. they are on while I drive and after I park and take the key out of the ignition. I tried to disconnect battery for a lil while connected it still on. Fuse is in good shape still working. Any idea of what it is, I was told something about a switch but where is it and what do I have to do to it is it just stuck or can you replace it. Im lost and I need to get this fixed thanks.

It sounds as if The brake switch is either shorted or stuck. It is located on the brake pedal under the dash.

P.S. Sometimes you can get lucky and it may just be an adjustment

Suggested Repair

Inspect the brake light switch on the brake pedal under the dash. It may be stuck, shorted, or simply out of adjustment; adjust it if possible, or replace the switch if it remains stuck or shorted.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am reported that the brake lights stayed on while driving and after the key was removed. Disconnecting the battery did not help, and the fuse appeared good. The expert said the brake switch on the pedal under the dash is likely stuck or shorted, and that an adjustment may sometimes fix it.
