There is an automatic tensionier that rides on a pivot. You will either need a wrench or ratchet based on which one you have. Place the ratchet in the slot made for it and turn the tensionier in the direction to loosten the belt. Remove the belt and release tension. (watch your fingers) Here is a picture of the tensionier.
