my car turns over but wont start-it was running good until we replaced the water pump

I'm not sure of the litre size of your engine? Your obd1, can you check codes?

Can you do some basic tests, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs. Are the plugs dry, do they smell like gas?

I didn't see anything about changing the water pump that would keep the vehicle from starting.

The grand am is a 3.3 no spark and the trouble code is 12

The code 12 is diagnostic mode. With the engine cranking, if you have no spark at the plugs and no injector pulse, check the crank sensor. Take the connector loose, maybe something got wet, dry it off. You can check for ref voltage and ground, two signal circuits for a dual crank sensor.
