My bad.

The car is a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix.

So, same question: Does the car have both lights?

Sorry for the mistake.

After having an egr valve put on my car and drove 55 miles the check engine light came back on. The code reads p0420 pending.I am trying to get an emission on my car. At first the code had me replace the egr valve. Now I do not see why this code(p0420)is coming up.

Which I already had an o2 sensor put on a year ago. Why is the code says PENDING?Will the car pass emission with this problem? After I got the egr valve on the I took it to try to get my emission but the guy says everything passed except the car have to be driven more for the drive cycle. But now the check engine light is back on.

I've heard when the check engine light is blinking it's detecting a misfire, anyways well sometimes when I crank my car it will sputter and won't accelerate very good and it will feel like the engine is rumbling terribly and the check engine light will start blinking, we just got a new catalytic converter for the car but the same o2 sensors on, if anything please tell me what you think could be happening

A flashing Check Engine light is the most serious and means too much raw fuel is going into the exhaust system and is going to overheat and destroy the catalytic converter. You already replaced the result but you didn't address the cause. A misfire will send unburned gas and oxygen into the exhaust but you also have to consider a leaking fuel injector, leaking fuel pressure regulator, or a sensor problem.

My service engine light is on. This causes the car to idle high it also makes it shift hard when I change gears. I ran it on the machine and it came up mass air flow sensor it has been replaced. It ran good for about ten minutes and then it cut off and stated doing the same thing. I even changed the idle sensor still nothing I just have a feeling it is something very simple and I dont want to lose alot of money taking it to the dealer.

May be a defective new MAF, an air intake leak after the MAF would be first thoughts. Make sure the snorkel is nor torn and is cleamped on tight. Take some carb cleaner and spray it around the intake listening for an idle change when the fluid gets sucked in.

The MAF has been changed twice. The last one I put on was brand new. I inspected the hose that connects to the MAF to the intake no holes no cuts. When I took out the ram air vent and inspected it to make sure nothing was clogging it, it ran good for a whole day then went back to doing the samething.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am 4 door sedan with a 2.2L straight 4 engine I believe with 70000miles on it. The car has been running great but the other day the check engine light came on. My husband took it to a place to have it scanned and the code P0440 came up. We were told it had something to do with the emissions on the car. Any help you could give us would be great. Should we service the car ASAP, will it mess up the car's performance? Is it ok to drive it for a few days while we are waiting to take it in?
Thank You.

In the book that I have the code P0440 is a Evaporative emission control system malfunction. I hope that this can be of some use for you to get your problem corrected.
