Electrical problem
2001 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My car has the factory installed security system, often the system will be triggered by something and it will not allow teh car to start. The security light will flash on and off and I will have to sit there with the key turned to accesory for ten minutes until it quits flashing. Then the car will start. Also if I try to start the car with the drivers door open it will trigger the system. Sometimes this frequently happens other time it doesn't. I do not understand and would like the system to work properly or have it disabled in a way not to harm the ignition sytem.

Most common a bad ignition switch
try and use a different key if have one or have a new one make and program to your car
if still chances ignition switch no good and need to be replaced
have the system check for codes will help in identifying your problem
