I have been having an issue with my car for about a couple of months now. When I accelerate the engine will hesitate to the point the rpms go down a bit then jumps and keeps doing the same thing til I get to the desired speed. If I let off the gas it stops. Car does it more often when I am going up hills. Also it is idleing very high in every gear. If the car is in neutral or park it is idleing close to 2000rpms. This does not happen all the time but most of the time. It seems to effect the shifting as well a little. PLEASE HELP

Im having that same problem. When mine sits in park or neutral, it idles up to 3000. Idles high while I drive it too. Not quite as high as while it is sitting. Unsure of the problem. Waiting for some help here too. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hey guys.
I own a Pontiac grand am gt 2002, and it is usually 500-1000 rpm more than it should be at idle, It's in the chevrolet agency now, they say they have checked all the codes the computer is giving, but nothing seems bad. They say the next thing to do is a computer change. I hope not.

I'll write you guys when the problem is fixed.

Ok my car is at the dealer now, and after 3 weeks the only solution they found out is that the computer, the PCM, needs to be changed, so bad and so$$.

They say they checked all the error codes the computer said and everything is OK.

By the way after walking and biking 3 weeks in row, I'm in a truly good shape. No everything is bad afterall.

Yours Roberto

The idle position sensor could be bad or the throttle plate could be sticking.
