Hello,

the timing chain tensioner is controlled by oil pressure, to reset the tensioner you have to press it down firmly on a flat surface until the piston is compressed and locks in place in the "reset" postion. If this tensioner is old as I belive it is considering the car is a 98' you should change the tensioner as they tend to fail after they have been reset from my past experience. Hope this helps
