It has plenty of battery, it turns over great & once it
does start, usually the second or third try, it runs very
well & the "check engine"light does not come on.
it always would start on turn of key, now I have to
hold key on start position for like 3-8 seconds or let
go after a couple seconds try again & sometimes a-
gain. Id like to know what I should check first &then
next & etc.I know more than the general person but
i dont want to waste time & money doing something
thats not needed. It really runs great once it starts
but im so use to it starting right away. Thanx, Don

My first thought was a fuel issue, how is the fuel pressure?

I don't care if the cel comes on or not, I'd still check for codes. The computer may monitor the voltage on the fuel pump circuit, if there is no voltage when there should be, it may set a code.

On a system with an oil pressure switch in parallel with the pump relay, an extended crank may be a symptom of a faulty relay. You need to do some testing.

Sometimes, cycling the ignition switch, without cranking, might help the system pressure-up, if pressure is an issue.

How long since you had a tune-up? Yep, tune-ups take a little time and money, and may not fix the problem, that's the way it is with maintenance issues.
