front brake pads and do they wear out fairly evenly

Should I get more than 32K miles on the front brake pads and do they wear out fairly evenly? I had to replace them and was told it was normal. I think something else has caused this I have never had to replace brakes before replacing the tires.

Depending on how extreme the brakes are used 32,000 miles for brake replacement is normal. Front brakes never really make it longer the 40,000 miles without replacement. Here is a tutorial showing front brake pad replacement:
