I just recently purchased a 1986 Plymouth Caravelle SE. It as about 100,000 miles on it and has a Chrysler 2.5L I-4 EFI Engine. The car seems to idle normally, as far as I can tell, however when I try to accelerate over 30-35 mph the car just dies. I have changed the fuel filter as suggested by some of my coworkers, but that did not seem to change anything. Any suggestions on what the problem may be and how I would go about fixing it??

As I mentioned earlier, I had already changed the fuel filter on my 86 plymouth caravelle. I have know also changed the spark plugs, the spark plug wires, the distributor cap, and the rotor buton. I have also cleaned the throttle body, and added fuel system cleaner to the tank to clean out the lines and the fuel injector. However that has not completely solved the problem. I did find when I changed the distributor cap that the distributor itself was extremely loose, my father-in-law and I think we have the timing pretty close with out a timing light to do it. We have found that if the car is taken out when the engine is still cold that it seems to function normally, til it heats up then it goes back to not accelerating over 30-35mph, however it is not dying now it seems like it is trying but it just hesitates"?" And wont accelerate any farther. Suggestions?
