Good morning,

I attached the procedure below as well as a picture.

Why are you changing the ECM?

Roy

NOTE: The PCM engine control strategy prevents reduced idle speeds until after the engine operates for 320 km (200 miles). If the PCM is replaced after 320 km (200 miles) of usage, update the mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the new PCM. Use the DRB scan tool to change the millage and VIN in the PCM. If this step is not done, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) may be set. Refer to the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostic Procedure and the DRB scan tool.

The PCM attaches to a bracket between the air cleaner housing and Power Distribution Center (PDC).

REMOVAL

Auxiliary Jumper Terminal

1. Disconnect negative cable from auxiliary jumper terminal.
2. Disconnect both 40-way connectors from PCM.

3. Remove screws attaching PCM to bracket.
4. Lift PCM up to remove it from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Install PCM. Tighten mounting screws to 4 Nm (35 in. Lbs.).
2. Attach both 40-way connectors to PCM.
3. Connect negative cable to auxiliary jumper terminal.

Do you mean transmission control module? Under the hood, next to the power distribution center.

Please help. I have to find the computer in my Stratus so I can see how to take one out of a junk car and change it in my car. I don't have money to go to a mechanic or to buy a new computer so I have to do it myself. Someone please answer if you can, my three kids are tired of walking everywhere. Thank you.

Thanks again.

The pcm is located near the air cleaner.

If you get one that has anti-theft programmed into it and yours doesn't, The used pcm will teach the BCM that it should have anti-theft and will not start the car until you fix the anti-theft problem in a system that you don't have. Then your into another pcm and bcm.

I attached the process from the manual below. Please let us know what questions you have. Thanks

I would call the dealer parts department as well as an auto parts store and see if they can shed light on it. I'm not sure on this one, It may be as simple as "plug and play", but it seems more often than not there are many that require re-programming or certain exclusivity. The junk yard may also be able to tell you this.

Since you have anti-theft, I don't see having the problem I did.

I'm having trouble finding out if my car has a PCM or ECM. My problem is that I need the original number of whichever one of these modules my car uses and I have no idea where the this module is located. So, if anyone could tell me where I can find this module i'd really appreciate it.

The term PCM and ECM are usually used interchangeably to describe the computer. Powertrain Control Module or Engine Control Module.

In your particular case, you have a PCM. Your PCM is under the hood, sandwiched in between your air filter box and the fuse box (where your battery positive remote terminal is). And just to the left of the fuse box is your TCM, Transmission Control Module.

And yes, you can only replace your PCM with the ones that have the same part number.

Left front of engine compartment. At the least, use a code reader at the datalink connector, any trouble codes? Might be a problem with speed sensor input?
