These parking brakes do not have a special process to adjust them. They have an adjuster just like brake drums do.

So, the way to adjust them is to lift the rear end and adjust the drums out until the shoes touch. Then back them off so that they are not dragging.

I am attaching the process below on how to do this, but the adjustment process is the last step. Clearly this is when you are replacing them so you may not have to apply tension. Just adjust the shoes out and then when you finish this, apply the brake and see if it holds. If not, then you need to adjust them slightly more.

Please let us know if you have questions on this and we can go from there.

Thanks

Which direction on the adjuster tightens the shoe? I don’t want to go too far and have to disassemble the whole thing. Thanks

Take a look at the picture below. This is a view from the front, and you are going to be adjusting from the rear, but the idea is the same.

In order to make the shoes tighter, you need to make the adjuster longer. This means you need to loosen the adjuster nut by turning it to the left if you are looking at it straight on.

So, picture holding it in your hand and turning the nut to the left, then based on its orientation which way to do you have to turn it?

The way I look at it, you will have to push the adjuster down moving the flat head screwdriver from the top of the opening to bottom.

However, no matter way, you cannot over adjust these and have the adjuster come off. If you do, they will get too tight, and you will have to go the other way.

If you are loosening, then you simply reverse the direction.

Sounds great. Let us know how you make out. One last note on this. I would lift the rear axle and have it in neutral and as you are adjusting trying spinning the tire with the other hand.

This will give you immediate feedback if you need to continue or you are going the wrong direction.

Thanks again.
