Over heating slow and stop speeds

The car heats up to 240 to 260 degrees before the fan turns on to cool, it then drops to about 180 degrees then heats back up to 240 to 260. When driving at highway speeds temperature stays about 150 degrees then at slow speeds and stop and go speeds it heats to the correct temperature. The coolant level is full. The cars run fine and has 77,000 miles.

Check the radiator for cold spots with the engine off, when heated up if you feel any cold spots then the radiator is bad. It should be same temperature all over. Also have the system pressure checked for head gasket leaks it might be that. If none of that is found try some of the radiator cool products at auto parts it is an additive and it works.

I would also check the coolant temperature which controls when the fans come on.
